There are a variety of different resources for you to consider when you encounter these issues. Some situations are more urgent than others, but know that there are lots of places you can reach out to for the support you need.

Police

First and foremost, if you or someone you know is in immediate danger, do not hesitate to call the police. It is important that you contact the police if there is an emergency. Do not wait to report a situation where you or someone else is in imminent danger. Once they have responded, they can further help to direct you to other support services.

Family counseling and mediation

If you feel that your family has conflicts that can be resolved by a professional counselor, family counseling is a good step in the right direction. It can help you with communication, and resolve conflicts. It also helps to have an unbiased mediator to help sort through difficult situations and disagreements. Counseling can also help children who have been through difficult situations, whether it is abuse, divorce, losing a parent, and so on.

Domestic abuse center

If you are struggling with domestic abuse, you should reach out to a domestic abuse hotline and/or center. These centers can help whether you need urgent help or creating a long term plan. A domestic abuse center can help to provide a safe place to shelter if you or someone you know is enduring abuse.

Child protective services

If you know of a child who is being abused or neglected, or you suspect that this is the case, calling Child Protective Services is important. You always want to report these situations so that they can be rectified. Keep in mind that there are certain things what CPS can and cannot do, so be sure to do your research first to see what you can expect and if they will be able to help you.

Social services

Social services can help you with a number of things, especially if you or a family you know is struggling with things like parenting, home safety, or providing adequate food. Social workers often work in child welfare settings to make sure that children are safe from abuse, neglect or abandonment, drug or alcohol abuse, and so on. Social services workers often come to the home to make sure that it is a safe environment.
