My husband I got married in Mexico, and we have returned several times afterwards. One of the places we visited many years ago was Valladolid, and decided to revisit in 2021 with our two children. Valladolid is the 3rd largest city in the Yucatan, and is located just over two hours from Cancun.

We had actually stayed at Hotel El Meson Del Marques before (in 2006), and we decided that you really can’t beat the location, as the hotel is right on the center square on Valladolid.

The hotel is developed in a property from the 17th century, and we love the ambiance and design.

This is a great location with plenty to see and do, much within walking distance from the hotel.

Getting to the hotel is easy, and we used Google Maps.

Another bonus is that the hotel has its own parking lot, so you don’t have to deal with street parking.

One of the reasons that we chose this hotel is that we did not want to be searching for parking, or to end up parking away from our hotel and have to worry about our belongings or have to walk a distance to the car.

We felt that our car and belongings were safe in the lot.

Once we got there, a parking lot attendant directed us where to park.

There are several entrances, including the check-in, parking lot, and a front entrance that visitors also use to access the restaurant.

The check-in process was easy, and we were able to go eat while our room was being prepared.

Rooms

The hallways to the rooms are open-air areas, which is nice especially during Covid times.

Restaurant

Another reason we chose this hotel is because breakfast is included, and also because they have a restaurant, so you don’t have leave for food.

An added bonus is that the restaurant is located on a courtyard, so it is all open air. Great in Covid times, but also a wonderful ambiance and we enjoyed the overall ambiance.

Breakfast was very nice, with a variety of options for drinks and foods. This is a small portion of their breakfast menu (check out the full menu here).

I enjoyed having a hot coffee every morning, and there were also lots of other drinks available, like this fresh watermelon juice.

I enjoyed a lot of fruit at breakfast, which is so fresh and delicious in Mexico.

Another favorite of mine were the Chilaquiles de Rajas Poblanos, which are chips smothered in sauce. I love ordering this in Mexico and was happy to see this on their breakfast menu.

We also visited the restaurant at dinnertime. They had a nice variety as well, including dishes like alfredo that my youngest enjoyed.

Amenities

There is a nice courtyard with a pool and hot tub here.

There are also nice rooftop views here.

Location

The location is great here, with plenty to explore on foot and with our rental car.

Right on the square, there are vendors and the Church of San Servacio.

We spent four nights here at Hotel El Meson del Marques. It was a great place to explore from, and we did lots of walking and road trips with our rental car. It is nice to include a city on our trip, and not just beaches and the Mayan Riviera.
